Reason for inclusion: Identified by Thomas Bruce Wheeler as 16 Godolphin Street, the home of the international spy Eduardo Lucas. Lucas was murdered by his wife in the front room. Under the carpet was a secret hiding place which at one stage held the document.
Accessibility: Not accessible internally as a private residence
Description: Watson described the building as “a high dingy narrow chested house, prim formal and solid like the century which gave it birth”
Comments: Gayfere Street meets the description of Godolphin Street – 18th century, secluded lying between the River and the Abbey and a few minutes walk from Whitehall Terrace (approximately 10 minutes).
