Name: Brockhampton Court
Location: Brockhampton Court, Brockhampton, Hereford HR1 4TQ
Story: The Adventure of the Boscombe Valley Mystery
Reason for inclusion: Favoured contender for John Turner’s residence
Accessibility: Now a nursing home. Please refer to website.
Description: The building has as its core an 18th century former rectory substantially rebuilt in 1879 in the neo-Tudor style. There are two lodges, a lake nearby, and scattered farmhouses.
The only description Conan Doyle gives us of the house is it had ‘red jutting pinnacles’ which Brockhampton Court certainly has. Also, the 1881 census showed it having the same number of staff as Conan Doyle gave it.
