Description: the former villages have been almost entirely subsumed in the growth of the modern city of Cambridge. It is increasingly a modern landscape given over to housing and new technological or medicinal industries, with a few traces of the former countryside.
Comment: Gavin Brend in “My Dear Holmes” observes that the order stated by Holmes is highly inconvenient: the more obvious route is Chesterton, Waterbeach, Histon and Oakington.
