Reason for inclusion: In the churchyard is the sepulchre tomb of Richard Cabell the prototype of Hugo Baskerville
Accessibility: Fully accessible. Car parking close to lych gate
Description: A square sepulchre with pantile, pyramidal roof opposite the porch of the ruined church. Metal railings on the front and door at back with tomb chest inside the structure on which the words “Ricardus” can be observed. Information panel recently installed.
Comments: The structure was built about 1656 by Richard Cabell and he was buried there after his death in 1672. The railings are designed to keep him in the tomb. On the night of his burial hell hounds were seen howling at the tomb. The site has encouraged black magic rituals in past years and one of these is accredited with the fire that destroyed the church in 1992
