Comment
John Brown, a member of Merton and Streatham historical societies believed that Doyle based the character of Holder on William Matthew Coulthurst, senior partner in Coutts & Co who had a villa in the area called Streatham Lodge (J. Brown Sherlock Holmes in Streatham). The house was sadly demolished over a century ago and no pictures have come to light todate. Its location was close to the modern block of flats named after the family. It was infuriatingly situated between three railway stations so Holmes and Watson could have made use of any.
