Description: Elizabethan mansion set in parkland.
Comment
Although the mansion is ‘C’ shaped, and Hurlstone is L shaped it contains ancient oaks and elms in its parkland and has a mere, as does Hurlstone. It also has a more modern wing and was the residence of the Goring family notable supporters of Charles 1st as were the Musgraves. It is possible that Conan Doyle drew on a number of houses as his inspiration for Hurlstone, as he did for Baskerville Hall.
