Comments
Watson states that Dr Sterndale’s bungalow was ‘buried in the lonely wood of Beauchamp Arriance’. Pamela Bruxner established that this is one of the very rare wooded areas on the Lizard Peninsula and its distance to the other locations fit those in the story. Not far away is a dwelling called Venton Arriance which may have given Conan Doyle inspiration for the name of Sterndale’s dwelling (‘Beauchamp Arriance’).
