Reason for inclusion: One of the candidates for Briony Lodge, Irene Adler’s home.
Accessibility: Private residences
Description: St John’s Wood was one of the first London suburbs with lower density villa housing and frequent avenues. There are many examples of such villas in Langford Place.
Comments: Irene Adler’s address is given as Briony Lodge, Serpentine Avenue St Johns Wood. ‘Serpentine Avenue’ does not exist. The property is described as a ‘bijou villa’ on a ‘small street in a quiet neighbourhood’. It is of two storeys and further down the road we are told there was a mews in a lane which runs down a garden wall. This is the case with No7 Langford Place and Regents Mews. So could Bryony Lodge be No5 or No4?
