  • Reason for inclusion: Where Holmes and Watson alight to visit Grant Munro

    Accessibility: Normal railway opening times.

    Description: Railway station

    Comment

The station was opened in January 1878. The existing buildings date from this time. Norbury was a rural location with villas only starting to be built in numbers in the 1880s so the Munros’ villa that they leased would be relatively new. During the second half of the 20th century many villas were destroyed and replaced by office buildings which, paradoxically, are now being replaced by residential accommodation. It has not been possible from Watson’s description to trace the location of the Munro villa.
