Norfolk

Norfolk featured in two Sherlock Holmes stories.

The first was Holmes’ first recorded case: The Gloria Scott set in 1874. The second was The Dancing Men set in 1898. Sir Arthur knew parts of Norfolk very well visiting the county on holiday but also to play cricket and golf. Indeed, it was on a holiday for recuperation after his return from the Boer War that he visited Cromer with his friend Fletcher Robinson and gained the idea for The Hound of The Baskervilles

The Society has visited Norfolk twice – in 1984 and 2017 and further details of the sites can be found in “A Singular Countryside – The Society’s Expedition to Norfolk”.
