The Noble Bachelor
The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor (usually dated to 1887) is one of 12 Sherlock Holmes short stories in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in The Strand Magazine April 1892. Holmes and Watson are visited in Baker Street by Lord St Simon the second son of the Duke of Balmoral who in straightened financial circumstances married the only daughter and heiress of a Californian millionaire. The bride however disappeared at the wedding breakfast and subsequently her wedding dress was found floating in the Serpentine. Inspector Lestrade suspects foul play but Holmes comes to a different conclusion.
