The Three Gables
The Adventure of The Three Gables is set in 1902. It is one of 12 Sherlock Holmes short stories in The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in The Strand Magazine in 1926. Holmes is warned not to continue his involvement in the ‘Harrow Weald case’. He has been approached by a Mrs Maberley who lives at The 3 Gables, Wealdstone who has received unsolicited offers to purchase her house but which stipulate nothing must be removed without the unnamed purchaser’s consent. The house is then burgled, luggage belonging to her dead son opened and an item taken. Holmes uses his connexion with Langdale Pike, a man who knows all the secrets of high society, to establish the reason for this. The trail leads to Isadora Klein, a beautiful woman due to marry the Duke of Lomond.
