All The Six Napoleons
The Six Napoleons
The Adventure of The Six Napoleons is set in 1900. It is one of 13 Sherlock Holmes short stories in The Return of Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in The Strand Magazine in 1904. Holmes and Watson are informed by Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard that a madman is destroying plaster busts of the French Emperor Napoleon 1st. One was smashed four days ago in a shop in the Kennington Road belonging to a Mr Morse Hudson. Last night two more were destroyed belonging to a Dr Barnicot; one at his Kennington Road residence and one at his surgery in Lower Brixton. The morning after Lestrade has told Holmes and Watson of these events another is smashed, but this time a man is killed. The trail takes Holmes and Watson to the East End of London, a secluded villa in Chiswick and then back to 221B Baker Street. At the conclusion of the case, reminiscent of that of the Blue Carbuncle, Holmes uncovers the stolen Black Pearl of the Borgias.
